DIY Hair Treatments

Hair is the ultimate accessory! Whether you like yours wild and untamed or super polished, your hair deserves just as much attention as your skin. You’re probably wondering how you can nourish yours naturally. I’ve got your back! I gathered a variety of easy, DIY hair treatments that you’ll likely want to incorporate into your weekly or monthly beauty rituals. These are some of my favourite hair treatments. With these easy to make DIYs, you can give your hair the TLC it needs to look its best by using items you have at home.

HONEY CONDITIONER FOR DRY HAIR

Natural honey, raw honey, organic honey and even agave syrup all attract and seal in moisture. So, if you have dry, damaged hair caused by blow drying, ironing, too much sun exposure or colouring then give this one a try. You can either do this at home or even take it to the salon with you. Wash and towel dry your hair, then evenly apply 1/2 a cup of honey on the length of your hair. Leave it on for 5 minutes and rinse off with water. If you want to make a treatment out of it, then add 2 tablespoons of olive oil to the honey, mix well and apply on damp hair. Leave it on for 20 mins and wash off with your regular shampoo.

APPLE CIDER VINEGAR HAIR RINSE

I am a huge fan of apple cider vinegar. It is full of natural vitamins and minerals. It can restore the PH level of your hair making it soft and shiny. Also excellent for the scalp as it gently exfoliates it and reduces itchiness as it also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Please make sure it is raw and organic.

2-3 tablespoon ACV

1 cup of normal water.

Add the 2 in a plastic bottle and take it to the shower with you. After shampooing your hair, lean your head back and evenly pour the concoction on your scalp and let it run through your hair. Wait for 2 -3 minutes and rinse. There is no need for conditioner. Don’t worry about the smell, it fades very quickly. You can do this twice a month.

OLIVE AND ROSEMARY OIL BLEND

Rosemary oil is packed with antioxidants. A lot of commercial hair care products for hair loss treatments add rosemary essential oil. It helps to combat thinning hair by improving blood circulation in the scalp and nourishing the hair follicles. It is also good for promoting hair growth and controls dandruff. You have to be little consistent with this one though. Apply 3 times a week for best results.

In a 30ml -60ml bottle add olive oil mixed with 10 drops of rosemary oil. This is your treatment oil. Apply on the scalp. Leave it on for 30 minutes and wash off. Word of caution – do not forget to do your patch test and proceed with this only if you don’t have any negative reactions. For the patch test, blend one drop of the essential oil and olive oil. Apply on the inside of the arm, stick a bandage on it and leave it on for one entire day.

ANTI-FRIZZ HAIR MASK

I love this hair mask! This will defrizz your hair, and make it shiny and super soft. You can apply this mask once a week for best results.

1 tablespoon olive or almond oil

1/2 cup yoghurt

1/4 cup of honey (organic)

1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar

Mix all the ingredients together and evenly apply all over your hair. Put it in a bun and wait for 30 minutes. Do not apply on scalp. Shampoo and condition as usual.
